Annie, are you okay?
I think it may have been my oldest sister who encouraged my love of stories when I was a little one. No one ever read to me except her (and she did voices). There were fairy tales like Snow White and Rose Red and The Elves and the Shoemaker, Chicken Licken, The Ugly Duckling… oh, and The Old Woman and her Pig, I loved that one:
As soon as the cat had lapped up the milk, the cat began to kill the rat; the rat began to gnaw the rope; the rope began to hang the butcher; the butcher began to kill the ox; the ox began to drink the water; the water began to quench the fire; the fire began to burn the stick; the stick began to beat the dog; the dog began to bite the pig; the little pig in fright jumped over the stile; and so the old woman got home that night.
She also wrote her own stories, and it was those that were my favourites. I’m pretty sure she got rid of them all when she grew up, I’ll have to ask her. I wanted to be like her and be able to write stories in that fun and imaginitive way that she had where the impossible could happen and often did.
Now. Michelle loved Michael Jackson. Loved him. Don’t go holding it against her or anything. I remember her talking about the Thriller video and how I was too little to see it because it was so scary and I wanted to see it so badly and when I finally got to, Wow! I felt like the most grown up girl in the world, I’d arrived! But by that time his movie Moonwalker was released and this little girl was old enough and ready for it. Michelle went to see it in the cinema with her friends but as soon as it was out on video she collected up her YTS money on Friday and went to buy the video and we watched it together.
Ha! Awesome! I’m no big Michael Jackson fan but I’m a sucker for a big production and absolutely loved the dance routine and style of this (even better than Thriller). So a few nights ago I looked up “Smooth Criminal” on YouTube to see if it was actually as good as I thought it was.
And it’s still brilliant, I reckon. And I still feel all grown up to be watching it!
What do you think?
